Industrial effluents when reach aquatic systems become hazardous to aquatic fauna. Heavy metals present in such effluents do not degrade but affect the physiology of fish when present in excess concentrations. The present study has been designed to determine the acute toxicity of hexavalent chromium to Labeo rohita. 24, 48, 72 and 96 hr LC50 values were estimated using probit analysis. Effect of sublethal concentrations of hexavalent chromium on the RBC count and indices were analysed for 20 days and the results are discussed.
